My experiences
End of Days 2003
This was in 2003 so I apologise for no dates and times unlike the Fusion report! I had Juliet on my ticket badge!:D On the first day I saw Juliet's talk. She wore a very short skirt which rode up her legs, she then realised and put her grey coat over her legs. I asked her what her favorite episode was that she'd done and she said "School Hard" and the flashback episodes.
Had a photo with Juliet and Julie Benz(Darla). Juliet said she liked my Drusilla t-shirt and when I said I had bought her a present said it was very sweet of me. She seemed pleased when I said I'd see her at the photo and autograph sessions.
The next day I had a photo with Juliet on her own. She recognised me again, as I wore my Dru t-shirt again, and she knows my face. I still hadn't found a way to give my present to her. (a "Me to You" bear, with "To Someone Special" written on it) I had quite a bad ticket number and didn't think I'd get to see her at the autograph session, which I got quite upset about.
The last day I did manage to see Juliet again at the autograph session. I gave her the present and she said "Oh that's so sweet! I thought you were just saying you had gotten me a present!" I gave her 2 drawings which she complemented. I told her about a drawing I did of her Chinese style which she thought was cool. She said "I can't draw, so..." She kept eye contact with me the whole time, she's very chatty and kind.
Later that day I saw her and Julie's talk which was very good. I wanted to ask them both if they'd be at any conventions next year, but I didn't think they'd know that far ahead. All in all, I had a brilliant first time meeting Juliet!
Fusion Convention Report of meeting Juliet Landau 30th April- 2nd May 2004
Friday 30th April 2004 12:00pm: Went to see Juliet's talk with Robert Patrick.(The Terminator 2, X-Files, The Faculty.) Juliet was stunning, she wore jeans and a hat. Robert was very cool. I aksed Juliet what it was like to film The Toolbox Murders and she instantly gave me a look as if she recognised me from End of Days last year, which it turns out she did. She said it was good, but her character gets brutally murdered & at one point Juliet herself had a very sore body. She told such a funny story about when filming the scene where she kills Kendra she had to wear fake nails as they didn't have time for the manicure and every time they did a close up on the nails one went "Ping!!!"
Approx 2:30pm: Went to get Juliet's, Robert's, Tom Lenk's (Andrew), and Sarah Hagan's (Amanda the potential slayer) autographs. Juliet was first up and remembered me instantly. She said she loves the Dru t-shirt I made, and I asked her if she got the bear I gave her last year and the bracelet I made for her birthday. She said yes and that she loved them and kept them in her house! The guy in front of me asked for a hug from her so I thought "What the hell just do it cos you love her so much!" so I did and the steward said no, but Juliet had gotten up 2 give me one and said "Oh go on, my last one" with a huge grin & gave me a cuddle. She's so great 2 hug! Mmmmm..... I told her I'd see her at all her photo sessions and talks whch she was pleased about.
Approx 8:30pm: Went to the opening ceremony and Juliet was gorgeous!
Saturday 1st May 2:40pm: Juliet did a talk with Clare Kramer. They were both amazing looking! Juliet was sleep deprived the poor thing. Juliet had on another hat, and dangly hoop earrings. I really wanted to ask Juliet if she had any advice for an actress like me, but they had 2 wrap up:( Went 2 have a photo with Clare and Juliet who were so sweet! Juliet asked if I would be at the "thing" (party and fancy dress) later as if to say "I'd like to see you there later"
Approx 8:30pm: Went to the fancy dress competition. Was going to dress up as Drusilla but I was too shy. Defintely next year!Juliet had her hair in bunches, was very pretty.
Sunday 2nd May approx 12:20pm Went to have a photo with Juliet. Got a bit sad as it was my last pic with her. Caught some of her conversation to the steward as I stood right near her in the queue. She was saying something about a fan wanting to marry Clare. I asked her if she'd gotten sleep and would she be at the parties. God she's lovely! Saw her come out after the session and I think she went to the loo. Was gonna casually go in there myself but didn't.
Approx 8:30pm: Went to the closing ceremony. A little girl (Chloe, 5 yrs old) had become the guests favorite and SAT WITH JULIET!!! HOW JEALOUS WAS I?! Biatch! She was only playing with her doll as well. Juliet made eye contact with me twice, as I was in the front row. I cheered so hard 4 Juliet I nearly lost my voice & I cried a bit. I hope she does more cons next year and I can go!
Matt Patay's experience
Being a fan of the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and of Juliet Landau's stint on the show and a few episode on the spin-off "Angel" I was not going to pass up the opportunity to finally meet her in person at Haunt X, the Horror, Haunt & Halloween Expo in Los Angeles during the weekend of February 18-19, 2006, which was to be held at the LAX Airport Hilton Hotel. Except I live outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the convention was in Los Angeles. Distance not a thing to me, I randomly bought a airline ticket, boarded a US Airways flight to L.A. that Friday afternoon, and flew out. I had a little problem getting there because there was bad weather over the Midwest and the plane had to make an emergency landing at the airport in Kansas City, Missouri to refuel after running into turbulence which in addition to flying against the Gulf Stream winds of 150 km made a drain on the jet fuel. But the flight arrived without further incident two hours late, and after spending an uneventful night at a cheap Super 8 Motel near the airport, I was at the LAX Hilton the next Saturday morning to pick up my ticket to the dealer rooms which opened at 10 AM beating out a growing line of ticket buyers, made my was into the dealer rooms shortly afterwards. After meeting a few celebrity guests whom included special effects artist/stuntman/actor Tom Savini, as well as bald guy Michael Berryman, and a few others from George A. Romero's latest zombie film, Land of the Dead, whom included Pedro Armento (Pillsbury) and Jennifer Baxter (the softball player zombie #9) I got to meet Juliet as she was arriving with her convention manager and setting up her table. She was quite a nice lady which I had her sign a photo of her as Drusilla as well as a few items I brought with me which included the DVD box set of Season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Season 2 DVD box set of Angel, and the DVD of Tobe Hooper's remake of "Toolbox Murders" which she had a minor role. The autographs cost me some money, as well as a photo op with her as well, but to me it was worth it. She charged $5 per photo with her which she said was to raise donations for the Children of the Night, a local foundation which helps teenage runaway children to keep them off the streets. She always put on a pair of sunglasses with each photo taken as not to let the flash from the camera affect her. (She would not wear sunglasses during the rest of the time so after each photo taken, she would take them off. On one occasion, I brought my own pair of sunglasses too during a photo op. She seemed very friendly and was nicely dressed both days she was there which made my excursion worth the trip. She would leave her table at around 1 PM to go out to lunch somewhere with her manager, Patty (so that was her name), and after a few more hours of autograph signings, she would presumably drive back to her home located somewhere in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood near Hollywood. I would remain around the dealer rooms and screening rooms to look at trailers for the latest releases of upcoming horror films, most notable being 2001 Maniacs, a remake of the 1964 low-budget cult horror flick Two Thousand Maniacs that was directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. Being at Haunt X was probably the best adventure I had so far in meeting the people whom appeared on "Buffy" or the spin-off "Angel". Going back home to Philadelphia that Sunday evening with my signed memorabilia by Juliet Landau, among others, made me proud that I once again would travel out of my way to see her and a few others that I admire their work in movies and TV shows which appeal to me.
