Drusilla was a weird one, and Juliet Landau’s been playing her on and off since season two of Buffy .At the wrap party she reveals how we may not have seen the last of Dru…
Juliet Landau has been around since the second season of Buffy, though always in a recurring guest star role. Her character, Drusilla, was originally Spike’s girlfriend, though we’ve seen her in flashbacks in Victorian Europe, where Spike and Drusilla joined Angel and Darla in terrorising the countryside. Yet another “accented” cast member, Landau speaks pure American in real life. The daughter of Martin Landau, Juliet was last seen in “Lies My Parents Told Me”, where we learn that Spike turned his ailing mother into a vampire, and then promptly slayed her. Charming…
Are you happy or sad?
“It’s a bittersweet thing. It’s a little bit surreal. It’s a little bit of that feeling. I realised the other day that I’ve been working on the show for five years, so there’s this moment of sort of looking at it, looking now back at it, which is wild.”
What was it like filming the final flashbacks for “Lies My Parents Told Me”?
“It’s always fun to go back and do the flashbacks, back in time, to be in London in the 1800’s and do all of that stuff. It was really fun.
Will you be back on Angel?
“They’re talking about it, so we’ll see what happens there.
Next year?
“Yeah, possibly. When the network split, I went over to Buffy. There were no more crossovers Now that they’re ending it, it’s conceivable that I would be there.”
Could they bring you back more regularly?
“It’s a possibility. I don’t know.”
What about Spike being on Angel?
“Yeah, I heard that through the grapevine. It should be fun. James and I had a great time working together, and with David. I haven’t actually seen David in a while.”
What will be the legacy of Buffy?
“I have no idea actually, other than it took a genre and treated it in a new style and really catapulted it. So, I don’t know.”
Is this party a celebration or mourning?
“Oh, I think it’s a celebration, definitely. At least, I’m viewing it as a celebration.”
What was your favourite moment?
“There’s really so many that it’s hard to pick one. Though I did like it when, after I was weak and dying for the first six episodes I then got renewed strength and James and I sort of switch roles, so that I start taking care of him. That was really fun.”
What was more empowering, the female villains, or the female heroes?
“I think it was a good balance. You have to have the strong villain to offset good versus evil, so I think both.”
